CCIT has recently made available a feature of Blackboard called “avatars”, which allows users to have an image (known as an avatar) that will follow them from course to course, appearing in places such as your discussion board posts. Avatars are a great way to keep visually connected with the class, a connection that is especially important in an online course.

Follow the steps below to add an avatar to your Blackboard account.

First, click on the down arrow in the global navigation in the upper right hand corner in Blackboard.
Avatar step 1

Once that menu expands, click on “Settings” and then “Personal Information”.
Avatar step 2

On the new page that opens up, click on “Personalize My Settings”.

Avatar step 3

Finally,  click the radial button to “Use custom avatar image” and then “Browse My Computer” to select a photo. Please note that Blackboard recommends a 150×150 pixel image. You can edit images in a long list of applications (Power Point, Paint, Photoshop, etc.), or you can upload and let Blackboard resize the photo for you. Once you pick the one you want, you will not see the file. That’s fine – just click submit. From there you will see it now in the global navigation in the upper right hand corner, and your avatar will start to show up in all your courses.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please email blackboard@dtcc.edu and we will be happy to help you with this and any other Blackboard questions you may have.
