Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Welcome to the first installment of Wednesday Words of Wisdom, where members of the educational community share their quick tips for success in the classroom. Today, I’m pleased to share the insights of Cecille Brant, adjunct instructor for the English Department at Stanton Campus:

Touch base with every student, every class. You don’t have to spend too much time on each individual because it isn’t so much about some complex discourse as it is letting them know that you see they are there. A smile and hello when a student enters class, a quick question about the student’s other classes, or a happy little tap on his or her desk can let students know that you recognize them and care about their presence in class. Acknowledgement is at the center of all learning.
